The women of the Trump clan have no problem turning heads, whether it’s through their political views, social media posts, or their sometimes questionable style choices. While there may not be many people who take fashion inspiration from the Trump women, it’s no secret that the Trumps often use their outfits to make big statements, like that infamous “I really don’t care, do you?” jacket that Melania Trump wore on her way to visit a migrant child detention center (which she later admitted was, in fact, a statement and not just a jacket). However, we have to ask: are all of their fashion statements necessary to make? This question seems especially important when it comes to Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, whose love of miniskirts, sequins, and plunging necklines seems more than a little out of place in the conservative political sphere.
Not to be outdone, Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, has had her share of unfortunate fashion moments, and more than once, she has rocked some looks that were more optical illusions than eye-catching fashion. The usually stylish Ivanka Trump has also drawn attention for her less-than-stellar fashion choices, often confidently showing off styles on her Instagram that miss the mark. While her outfit choices aren’t necessarily always awful, they’ve still had plenty of fashion fails that are hard to ignore. From tacky prints and over-the-top cuts and colors to drab outfits with no attention to detail, the Trump women have had more than a few unfortunate fashion moments that are worth checking out throughout 2024.
Ivanka Trump Mixed Metallics and Looked Totally Inelegant
While it may be trendy to mix metals when it comes to jewelry, Ivanka Trump was mixing metals in the same dress and she did it in a totally outdated way. Wearing a dress that looked more like a Halloween costume than formal attire, Ivanka seemed to reach unprecedented levels of vulgarity as she seemingly went for sophistication. To make matters worse, the way she accessorized her outfit and styled her hair did nothing to add cohesion or balance to the look. Her large chandelier earrings were just more sparkle added to an already over-the-top glitzy look, and her low, fluffy ponytail looked completely out of place.
Of course, there are plenty of ways to rock metallics without looking over-the-top, like Ivanka Trump. If you’re not feeling too confident with metallics, opting for minimal touches of gold, silver, or copper may be a better way to start. Mixing metallics with neutral colors is another simple way to keep the look balanced and solid. This way, you can also ensure that your metallic piece, whether it’s a top, skirt, or accessory, is the center of attention and not a distraction. As flashy as the overall look is, Ivanka at least gets some credit for embracing Indian culture and donning a sari, even if she could have done so more elegantly.
Melania Trump Wore a Baggy Gray Suit on Election Night
There’s no doubt about it: no matter who you support, election night is a big night. All eyes are on the presidential candidates and their families. Of all nights, though, this is the one Melania Trump chose to show up in one of her most boring looks to date: an oversized grey midi skirt suit. While Melania normally looks polished and put together, she looked a little out of place in this look. Not only was it a boring style, but it appeared to be at least a size too big.
A skirt suit is a fashionable alternative to buttoned-up workwear. However, Melania Trump found a way to take any excitement or trend out of this look. Combined with the drab color, the lack of accessories or styling really put all the attention on her bland wool skirt suit. Another thing that struck me oddly about this look is that it’s a stark departure from many of her other usual dress choices, which often include bright greens, pinks, and purples, plus bold floral prints. To be fair, though, it may not always be easy to find the most stunning look when many of the biggest fashion houses refuse to dress you, as they do with Melania Trump.
Kimberly Guilfoyle Looked Out of Place in Shoulder Pads and a Busy Print
Kimberly Guilfoyle knows how to create a statement-making look. But whether it catches your eye for the right reasons or not is another matter. While in London for the Trump campaign, Guilfoyle donned a mini dress with plenty of detailing. Not only did the short, long-sleeved dress have oversized shoulder pads, but the super intricate black and white print was also distracting. Paired with some large earrings and white heels, it looked more like an outfit for going to a club than campaigning. However, at least Guilfoyle kept the color palette minimalist and focused on black and white, as adding any additional elements to this look would have easily taken it to a new level of kitsch.
That said, there are still plenty of prints that are modern, fresh, and chic. Tasteful stripes and polka dots are great classic choices. Simple harlequin motifs have also been trending in 2024, as have zigzag patterns, graphic floral prints, and wavy lines with an organic feel. Unfortunately, Guilfoyle opted for neither of these, instead choosing a busy geometric print that would have looked much less out of place 10 years ago.
Lara Trump Wore Oversized and Odd Shapes
For many, Easter is a time of celebration and connection with family. However, for Lara Trump, it seems it was also a time to make sure all eyes were on her and her oddly shaped dress. Although the little white dress was the fashion trend to keep on the radar for spring 2024, Lara Trump’s look didn’t quite live up to the hype. Her white Easter dress featured a large, three-dimensional rosette-shaped piece that covered the entire front bodice. Although some daring fashionistas might pull off something like this, it really overwhelmed Lara Trump’s figure and drew too much attention. However, the only benefit of this is that it may have helped draw some of the attention away from the folds and wrinkles that covered her skirt.
In addition to being too much, this dress was also bland at the same time. Of course, she may have decided not to accessorize much in order to focus on her massive rosette, but the reality is that by not adding even some simple jewelry or accessories, the overall effect was a super basic look. Even if the dress itself wasn’t a hit, a feminine cardigan or some delicate jewelry could have at least added some depth and softness to this strange outfit.
Kimberly Guilfoyle did Not Understand the Assignment At a Mar-A-Largo Event
By now, it’s pretty clear that Kimberly Guilfoyle has established a pattern of wearing clothes that aren’t quite right for the event she’s attending. However, the look she wore to Abraham Hamadeh’s fundraising event at Mar-A-Largo may have been her worst offense yet. Even though she did give a speech at the event, most of the attention was focused on her shocking outfit. The headline-grabbing black minidress featured a plunging neckline with sheer mesh and another large neckline with mesh that started at the hem of her dress and went all the way up to her hip. While the dress might have made sense at a club or casual party, in a formal setting, the super-revealing dress was out of place and really drew the wrong kind of attention to Guilfoyle.
Usually, with such a bold look, a lack of accessories would be a good choice. However, with this outfit, the minimalist jewelry kept all the attention on Guilfoyle in a way that just didn’t work. Adding something else to the look could have given it a more subtle or elegant vibe and potentially created an interesting, albeit inappropriate, look. Another thing that didn’t work was her gold platform sandals, which looked uncoordinated and only gave the look an even more disjointed feel. Her makeup didn’t help this situation either. Her super smoky eyeshadow was too bold for her already edgy outfit, and her glossy nude lip, instead of creating balance, only added to the over-the-top vibe of the whole look.
Melania Trump Got a Bit Too Bold with Her Prints
Melania Trump, who typically wears solid-colored clothing, showed up to a charity event in Florida wearing a loose-fitting jumpsuit with a distracting floral print. It seems like Melania was stepping out of her comfort zone with this look. Unfortunately, she would have been better off sticking to some of her more classic styles. Not only did the jumpsuit not seem to fit her, but the overall outfit looked very out of place on her. The large print with tropical-looking flowers started at the bottom hem of her jumpsuit and went up to her hip, creating an odd visual cut that was really distracting. Not only that, but the additional print on the sleeves and belt only added to the over-the-top, over-the-top look.
Of course, styling a jumpsuit can seem difficult, especially in a more formal situation. Doing things like making sure the fit and length of the jumpsuit suits you is important for any jumpsuit style, but it matters in particular when you’re wearing it to a formal event, as fit is key to looking put-together and put-together, rather than frumpy or awkward (which may not be as important when you’re just running errands in your favorite comfy jumpsuit). In Melania’s case, it seems she didn’t get the message.
At the very least, Melania gets some credit for keeping her accessories to a minimum, as any kind of attention-grabbing accessory would have really been too much for this look. Simple earrings and an updo were also good moves and helped create some sense of balance with the large, eye-catching print.
